Mariah Gomez

Mariah Gomez is a violinist for Mariachi Flor del Desierto, a music educator, and a local guitarist. 

 

Mariah graduated with a Bachelors of Music, with an emphasis in classical guitar, and a Bachelors of Humanities from the University of the Texas Permian Basin. During her time in university, Mariah was a member of the Guitar, Orchestra, and Mariachi Programs. In 2024, she was a recipient of the DHSI Research Grant, which allowed her to study lutherie and build her own classical guitar. Mariah premiered her instrument at her senior recital, alongside original compositions. Mariah has written pieces for classical guitar ensemble, as well as mixed-chamber. She is a member of the Basin Community Guitar Orchestra and the Texas Guitar Directors Association.

Mariah is the co-owner of Sound & Space Studios, a music lesson studio located in Odessa, where she teaches guitar, piano, and violin. Being an accomplished educator, Mariah's students have performed solo recitals, received numerous gigging opportunities, and won local talent shows.

 

Mariah began her mariachi journey at age 19 when she joined her university mariachi, having previously participated in her middle school and high school orchestra programs. During this time, Mariah would go on to lead Mariachi Flor del Desierto. Under her leadership, Mariachi Flor del Desierto has performed for Viva La Fiesta Odessa, been featured on Telemundo, and became a recognizable local group, forming meaningful connections with their clients.

 

Apart from leading the mariachi and teaching, Mariah is the bassist for local artist Yverika Gonzales, performing gigs around West Texas.
