Mayra Gutierrez

Mayra Gutierrez is a violinist and vocalist with Mariachi Flor del Desierto and an accomplished music educator based in Odessa, Texas. Her love for mariachi music began at a very young age, inspired by a family that surrounded her with a wide variety of musical styles and traditions from early childhood.

Mayra began playing the violin in sixth grade through her school’s orchestra program and continued her instrumental studies throughout middle school, high school, and college. In eighth grade, she also began her choral journey, participating in choir consistently through her secondary and collegiate years. Her passion led her to study voice professionally, including participation in the Music in the Marche vocal program in Italy, where she gained valuable international performance and educational experience.

At the age of 20, Mayra joined Mariachi Halcones, further developing her skills within the mariachi genre. She later became a member of Mariachi Flor del Desierto at 22 years old, where she currently performs. During her college years, Mayra was also actively involved in marching band color guard and theatre, demonstrating her versatility and dedication as a performing artist.

In 2024, Mayra earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a vocal emphasis from the University of Texas Permian Basin. She currently serves as the Associate Choir Director at Permian High School in Odessa, Texas, where she is passionate about fostering musicianship, artistry, and a love of music in her students while continuing to perform professionally.
